Doors with standard mullion posts – add 1-1/2” for each mullion post to the overall door unit width + width of sidelites.

Brick Mould – Brick Mould extends 1-5/16” beyond the back side if the jamb.  Add 2.625” for width and 1.3125 for height.

Overlap of various parts for pre-hung units:

Interior Doors:  Square Doors –

Stile overlap to jamb leg = -0.0.3125”,

Top rail to header = -0.125”.

                Double Square Door

Bottom rail – stays the same as a standard single door,

No “T” astragal / Ball Catches – Overlap for center stiles = -0.0625” each stile (creates a 1/8” gap between the slabs.)

With exterior “T” astragal – Overlap for center stiles = -0.375” each stile (creates a 3/4” gap between the slabs)

Single True Half Round and Elliptical Top Units :

The gap around the unit must be equal.  Stile and Top Rail overlap to jambs and header = -0.125”.

Exterior Doors: Single Square Doors – Standard overlaps –

Bottom rail to adjustable sill = -0.375”,

Bottom rail to ADA sill = -0.375”,

Bottom Rail To Bumper sill = +0.375”,

Stile to jamb leg = 0.40625”,

Top rail to header = 0.3125”.

Single Square door with 3 point lock system – Standard overlaps –

Bottom rail and top rail – stays the same as a standard single door,

Stile to jamb leg = 0.3125”,

Double Square Door – Standard overlaps –

Bottom rail and top rail – stays the same as a standard single door,

Stile to jamb leg = 0.40625”,

No “T” astragal – Overlap for center stiles = -0.0625” each stile (creates a 1/8” gap between the slabs.)

With exterior “T” astragal – Overlap for center stiles = -0.4375” each stile (creates a 7/8” gap between the slabs)

Exterior Door With Sidelite – Standard Adjustable Sill

Sidelite bottom rail to sill overlap = 0.000”  – Increase height of bottom rail by 3/8”.  Profile line to match door bottom rail.

Sidelite stile to jamb leg overlap = 0.4375”

Sidelite stile to mullion overlap = 0.500”

Sidelite top rail to header overlap = 0.4375”.  Increase height of top rail by 1/8”.  Profile line to match door top rail.

Please check the overall height of the sidelite – Height is to be only 1/2” taller than door slab height.

Door Slab – Bottom and top rail use standard single door overlaps.

Door stile to mullion post overlap = 0.46875”.

Brick Mould – overlaps the outside of the jamb layer – set overlap to 1.3125”.

Stile Widths For Standard Doors

1′ 0″ – 1′ 3″            3″

1′ 4″ – 3′ 0″            5″

3′ 1″ – 3′ 6″            6″

3’ 7’’ – 4’ +             7”

Top rail = stile width (See rule above)

Bottom and lock rail 8 ½’’

Mid Rail 5″

Mullions 5″

Rustic Series Doors – Bottom Rail is 5” wide.

Full lite doors – Same standards as other doors

Panel Grain Direction – Vertical grain direction is typical.  (panels under a 24” center rail are vertical grain)

Exceptions : 5 or more equal panel door (no center mullions) have horizontal grain direction.

Watch for customer specifications for a horizontal grain direction.

TDL  – Standard is 1-1/2” Wide / SDL – Standard is 7/8” Wide (Square or Eased Edge)

Square doors, equal spacing from bottom to top and side to side

Standard arch-top door, equal spacing from bottom to center of top rail

Common arch-top door, equal spacing from bottom to tallest point of top rail

Half-round door, equal spacing from bottom to center of top rail

Sidelites

All sidelites we install in a frame with an adjustable sill need to be ½” taller than the door.  Add the 3/8” to the bottom rail.  Top rail is to be 1/8” taller than the door top rail. (Please use a 0” overlap on the sill – GM908 retainer will hide a gap.)

All sidelites we install in a frame with a low profile sill (ADA) need to be ½” taller than the door.  Add the 3/8” to the bottom rail.  Top rail is to be 1/8” taller than the door top rail. (Please use a 0” overlap on the sill – GM908 retainer will hide a gap.)

All sidelites we install in a frame with an outswing sill need to be the same height as the door.  Top rail is to be 1/8” taller than the door top rail. (Please use a 0.250” overlap on the sill – GM908 retainer will hide a gap.) The bottom rail will be 0.125” shorter than the bottom rail on the door to keep the sticking line even across the unit.

General  Notes

3 panel doors w/ 2 tall lower panels & 1 upper panel: door is drawn as 3 panels tall, equally divided, and then the lower center rail deleted and replaced with a mullion.

6 & 4 panel doors default to 3 & 2 panels once they are less than 24’’

Our standard v-groove spacing is 3” on center.  Unless of course otherwise specified.

Glass Thickness Notes

½” Insulated Glass has a maximum total square footage of 12 sq ft.  Maximum height is 74”.

5/8” Insulated Glass is minimum thickness for caming or internal SDL bars.

Caming color options are Black (Patina), Silver (Zinc), and Gold (Brass).

Internal SDL bars are 5/8” wide and have color options of Bronze and White.

Common arch door radius – Use unit width as the inside (sticking profile edge ) radius of the top rail.

True common arch door radius – If slab only – use the unit width as the radius of the outside of the top rail.

If pre-hung – use the overall unit width (outside of jamb to outside of jamb) as the radius of the outside of the header.

Arched Lock Rail Doors – Lock rail should be 36’’ from bottom of door to center of quadrant points.

Lock rail should be 6 ½’’ wide with sticking. (Common Arch Lock Rail may need to have a 30” center line)

Cathedral Tops – Rail length * .4 is the radius for both center and side arcs.  Cathedral tops have 2″ rise.

Elliptical Tops – Inside profile – 1-1/2” is minimum radius.  Jambs – 6” is minimum inside radius.

True Plank Doors – Try to keep plank widths between 4’’ & 5’’ (Unless specified by the customer) – Designed as a stile and rail core width an Extira panel. – MAX 6″

Dentil Shelves – Should be 1-1/4” Thick x 2-3/4” Wide, 3” Longer than rail length.  (1-1/2” over each stile)

Blocks should be 1-1/2” square.

Dutch Door Shelves – Standard is to set on top of the lower door half.  Thickness is 1”.  Width is door thickness + 4”.  Corbels – standard is 3 corbels.  1” thick x 3-1/4” x 3-1/4”.  Drawing can be seen at workgroup\ standard operating procedures\ customer service\door specs and details \ shelf_dutch door\ dutchdoor_shelfdetail.

Speak Easy Window – Our standard is for fixed glass.  The outside of the GM550 is 8” wide x 10” tall.  This will give a viewable glass (daylight) of 6” wide x 8” tall.  Speak easy doors and grills are available options.  Wood opening 7” x 9”.  Glass size 6-7/8” x 8-7/8”.

Bi-fold and B-Pass Doors

These doors will be 3-5/8” shorter than the outside height of the jamb.

Jamb height – 3/4” (header thickness) – 1/8” – 1-7/8” (track) – 7/8” (under cut)

Door Width – Slab Width x number of slabs (2 or 4) + 1/8” (gap between jamb and slabs) + 1/4” between each slab.

Pocket Doors are the same as other doors.
