Design Requirements for 20 min doors

FOR GLASS DOORS

  • 4 9/16″ Min Width For Jamb Material
  • Min 3/4″ Thickness For Thin Side Of Jamb Profile
  • Flat or Single Rabbeted
  • Single Rabbeted Jambs Need To Be 1-3/16″ Thick To Have The Narrow Part Be 3/4″ Thick (When using Good’s GM929 profile)
  • Min 1/2″ x 1 1/4″ Door Stop nailed every 12″ if flat Jambs
  • In Residential Applications A Garage To House Fire Rated Door Needs To Have A Self Closing Device.  (Check With Customer If Fire Rated Door Is A Commercial Application And Determine If Special Codes Apply)
  • A Self Closing Device Can Be A 4 Inch Or Larger Single Action Spring Hinge.
  • Jeske Company Inc. Sells A 4″ Stone Harbor Single Action Adjustable Spring Hinge With 1/4″ or 5/8″ Radius Corners With A Commercial Fire Rating (Variety Of Colors Available)
  • Hardware Source (Online) Also Sells A 4″ and 4-1/2″ Single Action Adjustable Spring Hinge With Square Or 5/8″ Radius Corners With A Commercial Fire Rating.  (Variety Of Colors Available)  The Hinges From Hardware Source Are More More Expensive Than Ones From Jeske
  • Sill Must Be Fire Rated.
  • 9059 B W74” Adjustable sill from Columbia Aluminum has a 20 minute rating only. Sill can be cut to fit specific unit size. (This sill can not be used for a 45, 60, or 90 minute application)
  • ADA sill for 20, 45, 60, or 90 Minute Rating Approved.
  • Sweep Must Be Fire Rated.  Columbia Aluminum Offers A Variety Of Door Bottom Sweeps With 90 Minute Rating Approval.  #244 Concealed Door Bottom Is The Most Similar To Our Standard Sweep.
  • Good’s Millwork Is Committed To Building A Category A Fire Resistant Door Unit.  With This Construction, We Should Not Need Additional Material Around The Jamb To Meet The 20 Minute Approval Rating.  (Weather Strip Should Not Be A Concern)
  • If customer is going to machine, Stamp PP 20 Min Rating, on top of door, no metal label needed
